Trains Remembered Volume Two - British Railways Archive Video UK
TRAINS REMEMBERED VOLUME 2 of 3
'Railway Archives have enhanced these old videos to correct definition, colour balance and more'.
Like the earlier 'Trains Remembered Volume One' this recording takes a look at railways in
Britain from years gone by. Steam trains predominate on old footage skillfully transferred
to video tape to which sound has been added.
Among those railway lines and steam trains appearing are:-
Steam Branches - Little Kimble; Marlow; Colnbrook; Epping (Essex);
Chesham (Met); Weymouth Quay; MTs Corfe; and Newport Pagnall,
as filmed by Alan Willmott.
Mr. Ralph Cooper shot a good deal on the GN Main Line from Kings Cross in 1959;
we see A4's, A2's, N2's on suburban trains to Moorgate, then J50's - Bl's and BI7 -
Footballers in action - the prototype Deltic appears and we take a cab ride up the Main
Line passing the last somersault signal at Claypit and much more in this section.
Class 76 Electrics on the Woodhead Line with passenger trains - big sequence on the
re-opening in 1964 of the Isle of Man Steam Railway with a further visit made in 1971.
BR depot at KINGMOOR near Carlisle had plenty of stearn in 1966. We have a feature
on this, and the last steam specials, shot in colour, in 1964, by Ken Attwood.
On the KESR at Tenterden BR are still using a 'Terrier' for steam-hauled goods
trains - the line closes and we see the struggling preservationists trundling about
in old industrial locos and even a motor car takes to the rails at Tenterden - years later
the line re-opens officially in 1974.
A study is made of several preserved lines as seen in 1969.
London's Snow Hill Station closed in 1916 - we go on a press visit to see BR's plan
for re-opening the line to run through trains again.
Finally 1986: Sunday Lunch Specials on the Great Central Railway, 4472, Sir Nigel
Gresley and others.
Duration 58 minutes
Location sound and effects mixed with an economical commentary by David Coleman
Produced by Wilf Watters (Online Video 1986)
