Judy Garland on The Tonight Show - 17 December 1968 - [SPECIAL HQ EDITION]

A special message from the founder of Jean Hansen's Experience:

Here at JHE, we strive to bring you videos that serve to preserve American Entertainment History. JHE presents these videos in a way that provides historical perspective as well as educates the viewer with video commentary on the subject being presented.

While you may have seen portions of these videos in assorted qualities on YouTube or elsewhere, there are those, who think because they have a COPY of a video that they own the copyright to said video. And whether due to ignorance to the use of intellectual property, personal pride or jealousy, choose to report the video to YouTube for infringement.

For those that choose this route, I suggest that they keep in mind and ask themselves the following before doing so:

Is the video you are reporting 'transformative', meaning does it alter the original work either quantitatively or qualitatively?

If the answer is Yes, the video is being used within 'Fair Use' and even if a use does not necessarily alter the original in substance, if it does something to add a new meaning or message to it, it is still likely to be considered 'transformative'.

In closing, reporting a video opens a legal proceeding and should not be done recklessly or without careful consideration. It can also mean suspension or termination of an account for those that abuse this feature, so tread carefully.

With that said, on with the show!!!

Miss Jean Hansen

Judy Garland on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson

Taped and Aired: December 17, 1968

The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson was taped at NBC-TV in Rockefeller Center, New York City on 17 December 1968 1968.

Judy was introduced by Johnny Carson who simply said, "Ladies and Gentleman, what can you say the great Judy Garland" and entered to rapturous applause from the studio audience.

Judy then sang John Mayer's new composition, 'It's All for You'.

She was then whisked to the interview chair where she bantered with Johnny and Tonight Show announcer/sidekick Ed McMahon about sugar plums and Judy's favorite singers.

Judy also mentioned her next engagement at 'Talk of the Town', in London, which she mistakenly announced as 'The Town and Country, a venue Judy played in 1958.

Following a commercial break, Judy talked about her days with the Gumm Sisters and Vaudeville and closed her appearance singing another new John Mayer song, 'Til After the Holidays', while sitting in her interview chair.

This appearance marked the last time Judy would appear on The Tonight Show and remains the last full length appearance available to fans on video.

Complete audio of Judy's two appearances on Merv Griffin from December 1968 are available, but only video clips filmed from TV screens are known to exist.

Merry Christmas from JHE and stay tuned in 2016 for new videos.
