Bishop Annie B. Chamblin - Funeral of a Nation

"Funeral of a Nation" the sermon is dedicated to the memory of a great woman of God. She delivered this prophetic cry in her typical style and manner. This tribute is presented to you, the members of Mount Sinai Holy Church, Jerusalem Holy Church, Richmond, the World; and wherever her voice and influence was heard and felt.

From a humble beginning in rural Oxford, North Carolina, in a Christian home, a life was molded and filled with a spirit that would bless the lives of thousands. While in her early teens she moved to Richmond, VA, where she met and married Randolph Chamblin. It was here in 1924 that she learned of a deeper experience to be found in Christ, and heard Hebrews 12:14. She sought and found the same. Here more than fifty years of ministry were full and by no means limited. They included, forty years of faithful service as pastor of Jerusalem Holy Church (Richmond, VA), eighteen years as pastor of Mt. Sinai Holy Church (Kinston, NC). Her work in foreign missions in Haiti, South America, and Christian witness on other continents of the world were also included in the fifty years of her ministry.

Her denomination (Mount Sinai Holy Church of America, Inc.) honored her God fearing ministry in 1961 when she was elevated to the office of Bishop of the Southern District. In 1964, she became Vice-President of the Corporation.

Her ministry was untiring, her message uncompromising and her love boundless.
