Study discovers there are 5 types of prostate cancer
New research has revealed that five different types of prostate cancer affect men’s life daily.
Dr. David Samadi and Marc Siegel discuss the fact that prostate cancer is genetically based. “Each type of the disease needs its own approach to screening, diagnosis, treatment and even recurrence," noted Dr. Samadi.
Marc Siegel says: “We need more studies on the genetic testing to tell us exactly which genes are more associated with prostate cancer.” While the findings need further research, there are specific tests (4K score test, PSA level) that helps identify the disease in the early stage. Also, MRI is an accurate tool in the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer key statistics:
• Prostate cancer is one of the leading causes of death among men;
• About 1 in 7 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime;
• In 2019, it is estimated that there will be more than 31,620 deaths from prostate cancer.
