What Made Picatrix So Threatening to Power #history #knowledge #occult

What is the Picatrix — and why was it considered dangerous in medieval Europe?

Originally written in Arabic as Ghāyat al-Ḥakīm in the 10th–11th century, the text was translated in the 13th century under Alfonso X of Castile into Spanish and later Latin. Once it entered Europe, it began circulating among scholars, combining astronomy, philosophy, and what medieval authors called the study of celestial influence.

In a time when knowledge was closely controlled, texts like this were often restricted or viewed with suspicion — not necessarily because they were false, but because they operated outside accepted systems.

This short explores how one medieval book moved through history — and why knowledge itself was sometimes treated as a threat.
