특징
제주도와 부산 해역에서 분포하며, 조간대 하조선 근처 암석 또는 자갈지대의 돌 밑 또는 바위 틈에서 서식한다. 건드리면 모든 다리를 움츠리고 움직이지 않는 습성이 있다. 체색의 변이가 많지만 대체로 쑥색이거나 황갈색 또는 회갈색이 많으며, 집게다리의 손가락부분은 흑갈색을 띤다. 양 집게다리는 수컷에서 암컷보다 크고, 좌우비대칭이며, 손가락 안쪽면의 끝부분은 말편자모양으로 넓게 파여 있다. 포란 암컷은 7~9월에 나타나며, 조에아유생 4기를 거친다. 최대 갑각나비는 40mm 정도이다.

Xanthidae
Xanthidae is a family of crabs known as gorilla crabs, mud crabs, pebble crabs or rubble crabs.[1] Xanthid crabs are often brightly coloured and are highly poisonous, containing toxins which are not destroyed by cooking and for which no antidote is known.[2] The toxins are similar to the tetrodotoxin and saxitoxin produced by puffer fish, and may be produced by bacteria in the genus Vibrio living in symbiosis with the crabs, mostly V. alginolyticus and V. parahaemolyticus.
