My wife and I work on a Marble Top Antique Desk Restoration Together!

My wife Shelly and I took on a desk restoration project for a friend. I don't know a lot about restoring old wood and marble but it seemed like a good opportunity to learn. We stripped off the old varnish and some of the stain with paint stripper. I tried to show what we had figured out about this process for others who want to try it.

The marble top had holes in it from where there used to be back and side panels. These were completely missing with no idea what they might have looked like so per the owner's request I created back and side panels out of Sapele wood with a 12 sided star inlay made of walnut, mahogany, oak, and maple and used the stain to help the new piece match the old wood. I used the Shaper Origin CNC for the inlay and you can find it and the bits I needed in the links below.
