Hitler Thought He'd Win in 8 Weeks. | War & Power #history #ww2 #historyfacts #facts #army

June 22, 1941 — Adolf Hitler launched the most catastrophic military decision in the history of modern warfare. Three million soldiers. 1,800 miles of front. The largest land invasion ever assembled — aimed at destroying the Soviet Union in eight weeks.
Stalin had been warned by British intelligence, his own spies, and his own generals. He trusted Hitler's word instead. That trust cost 27 million Soviet lives.
In the first hours — 2,000 Soviet aircraft destroyed before breakfast. 650,000 soldiers encircled at Kyiv alone. German officers watching sunlight reflect off the Kremlin through their binoculars. Victory felt inevitable.
Then came the mud. Then came the Russian winter at minus 30 degrees. Then came General Zhukov — with fresh Siberian divisions out of the frozen east.
The eight-week war became 1,418 days of total destruction. Hitler sacked 35 generals, appointed himself Commander in Chief, and ordered his men to stand and die.
The Soviet Union didn't collapse. It rebuilt, endured, and marched all the way to Berlin.
This is Operation Barbarossa — the decision that destroyed the Third Reich. Told the way it deserves to be remembered.
