First off, no one showed up for the under 700cc class again, so I raced my 580 cc Sea-Doo SPI (60 horsepower) against the big motors... Two Sea-Doo XP 785s (110 HP), Yamaha WaveBlaster 2 (90 HP), and three Arctic Cat Tigersharks (90-100 HP)! Everyone else had at least 50% more horsepower than me. My mother, who was taking the video, didn't realize that I was on such an underpowered machine, so she was unhappy that I didn't win, or wasn't even competitive for the win, and she lets everyone know it.
This track was ridiculously easy to navigate, but it catered to the higher top speed machines like the Kawasaki ZX900 and the Yamaha Waveraider... none of which showed up for this race.
My good buddy Rob was critical in my success, as he got the hole shot both times, but in doing so, he tried to make a wake that would create a difficult path in the first couple of turns for the other XP and the WaveBlaster 2. He did it perfectly both times, and I was able to get through the first couple of bouys in 2nd place. From there, it was mostly about keeping momentum through the turns. On one bouy at each end, I tried to make make a rough enough wake on those two corners to upset the momentum of the guy behind me, often times at a loss of momentum on my end, but less so than the competition. It was enough to buy me a little bit of breathing room down the long straights.
