SFTS Faculty Voices - Eugene Eung-Chun Park, PhD

Meet Rev. Eugene Eung-Chun Park, PhD, David and Dana Dornsife Professor of New Testament at San Francisco Theological Seminary. Here he expands on the faculty ethos of Pluralism. “Pluralism starts with a recognition that no one culture, religion or school of thought has direct access to the objective truth, comprehensions and expressions of what is perceived to be true. People come in many different shapes and forms both in Academy and in real life, there are usually sets of habits and virtues that are regarded as the norm, leaving all the others as deviations from it. And these norms and standards are set by the dominant group in a given society, by those who have power and influence. Pluralism is an attempt at neutralizing this power dynamic and recognizing equal values in ideas and practices other than the dominant ones."
