President Macron has long endeavoured to present united European posture on China, careful to uphold European interests. Analysts say this dual imperative has grown increasingly fraught as China’s assertiveness reshapes global supply chains. Macron opens his visit Wednesday with a tour of Beijing’s Forbidden City before meeting President Xi Jinping in the capital. Macron’s arrival follows President Ursula’s tense July mission, during which she declared that EU-China relations had reached an “inflection point”. British PM Starmer, German Chancellor Merz are expected to follow with visits early next year, according to Reuters.
