The first of two 1981 documentaries ("Shannon County: Home" and "Shannon County: Hearts of the Children") composed of footage shot in Shannon County, Missouri, in 1978 and 1979.

Topics include a funeral, fox hunting with dogs, farming, building a brush arbor for a Pentecostal church service, gig fishing, skidding logs, mules, railroad tie hacking, political campaigning, education, square dancing, distilling whiskey, dogs, the town of Eminence, Shannon County's court system, fiddle and guitar music, Memorial Day, deer hunting and butchering, and trading.
