Here's How RAM Can Respond To The New 2021 Ford Raptor

If you’ve been following the channel, first of all thank you for subbing, but you’ve noticed that I’ve been chronicling the ever-mounting battle between Ford’s Raptor and RAM’s TRX.

Let’s do a quik recap before we dive into the confirmed Raptor R and How RAM can respond

2010 - Ford puts on sale the first “supertruck” with its Baja-winning F150 SVT Raptor. 5.4 or 6.2 V8 engine, absolute monster

Raptor goes away for a little bit, comes back in 2017 with an all new generation and it’s perfect in pretty much every way but one. 3.5 ecoboost v6….and that didn’t sit well with people

So in 2020 RAM did something about it with their TRX. Same philosophy, monsterously capable baja-running offorad super truck, but with one key difference. Lurking under the hood is the Hellcat 6.2 v8 with the 2.4L supercharger

It looked like it was game over for the Raptor, but 2021 brings a new gen F150 and for 2021 model years you’ll be able to get an all new raptor for the 3rd time

Here’s what we know about the new raptor r

Let’s dive in right away

Watching the press video we can see the new truck looks how you’d expect
Big FORD grille - bigger for more cooling on the R
Three ambers cuz it’s got the flared fenders
Rigid industries ditch lights
Crazy hood scoops
Flared fenders with 35 inch BFG K02s standard and beadlocks
Rap 37 package gets different frame tailored for 37inch tires
Here’s an interesting thing - only big 4 door supercrew now
Flared rear wheel arches as well, with big ford placard on the tailgate

Inside is where a much-needed update has occurred
12 inch digital cluster
12 inch Sync 4 infotain
Wireless ACP and AA
Over air updates - very tesla
TRX runs old u connect 4
Gear selector that folds into the console so you can use the workbench
Overall you can get 3 different interior packages based on how ritzy you want it

But enough of that let’s talk performance

Here’s the important thing here. The information released today was for the standard raptor
Available in summer of this year
The rap r will be available next year
But we can still get good info on the R based on what’s going down with the base

Updated version of the 3.5 ecoboost - no power figures confirmed, but exect between 475 and 500 hp
Same 10 speed gearbox
Ford knows the old one sounded weak so now you have 4 different exhaust modes
Ridiculous
7 drive modes, but nothing too crazy - baja , sport etc

Here’s the important stuff
Revised suspension with fox dampers - love it
14 inches of travel up front
In the back they moved to a 5link rear system with coils and fox dampers
15 inches of travel in the back
TRX gets an inch less travel with its Bilstein E2s

So again the important thing here is the platform
This is just setting the stage for the Raptor R
More rigid and durable frame, more travel from the suspension
Revised grille to cool the engine and make more power

Ford still hasn’t confirmed anything, but we do know the R will come with a V8
The smart money is on the 5.2 predator from the GT500
Mated to likely a 10 speed, not the tremec

But we will get teasers and confirmations as things come out later in the year.

Here’s the big question and the reason you clicked on the video: how will RAM respond

Answer: they don’t. Ram isnt playing the base 3.5. They don’t care, why would they.

What ram cares about is that 760 hp raptor r coming next year.

Here’s the deal, yes RAM poked the bear with the TRX and Ford will be forced to respond with the Predator, but then that’s kinda what Ford’s got for performance

The point im trying to make here is - RAM still ahs an ARSENAL of weapons at its disposal.
Redeye motor with 797 hp MORE
Super stock motor with 807 hp MORE
Even revive the Demon motor for another pony at 808
The point is all these motor si mentioned here are still 6.2s with blowers so it (in theory) wouldnt be too hard to just throw those motors in
Revise the cooling
Make sure the trans can take the power
Make sure the diffs and brakes can handle it and you’re good
All of which are pretty sorted already

So it begs the question: is the raptor R too little too late

When we get to next year will RAm be looking at the R like “thats cute guys, you dont want the smoke”
