K1 Footplate Ride NYMR 950TH VIDEO!!!!! 04/10/2019

Hello & Welcome to this special addition from Harnetty Railways

In this milestone video the 950th video was the experience of a lifetime.

As for my 30th birthday present from my family I had a footplate experience on The North Yorkshire Moors Railway a 36 mile round trip from Pickering to Grosmont & back on the footplate.

The locomotive given the honours was NELPG's ex BR Built K1 62005 working the 12pm service to Whitby & the 14pm service to Pickering.

We start at Pickering as we see the K1 arriving with the 1st train of the day from Whitby.

After seeing the loco run round we join the crew on the footplate for the 12pm departure with driver Robson Hewitson & fireman Paul Richardson.

At Grosmont I left the cab as I was not insured to go on the footplate on Network Rail property to Whitby but this gave me the chance for a lunch break while the K1 did the round trip from Grosmont to Whitby & back.

After lunch we see 62005 arrive back with the 14pm service from Whitby.

Here I would rejoin the footplate but this time with a fresh crew in driver Barney Casey & fireman Richard De Sadeleer in readiness for the 14.30pm departure back to Pickering.

The weather on this day was on & off with fine rain for most of the day most notably in The North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

Happily though the rain eased off for the highlight of the trip up the 1 in 49 gradient from Grosmont to Goathland.

The K1 performed magnificently just like at her regular mainline job in Scotland working for West Coast Railways hauling The Jacobite on The West Highland line from Fort WIlliam to Mallaig in the weather in Yorkshire & with 7 coaches in tow ya think ya climbing up Glenfinnan out of the station.

After the climb to Goathland we get the road to the summit at Moorgates.

After the summit I filmed on a part time bit as 62005 was mostly coasting through the national park to Levisham.

We depart for the final leg of the footplate experience from Levisham & for the 1st time the sun came out for the last leg of the journey & was greeted with sunshine when we arrived back at Pickering which is were we end this video.
