Discover the 2021 Compact Nissan Sentra as previewed on carfacta.com

For more than 37 years Nissan has been the boring, but reliable choice. The Sentra lacks so much personality that Nissan is branding the car differently in different markets. The car has been labeled ‘Sunny’, ‘Tsuru’ in Mexico and still carries the ‘Slyphy’ badge in Japanese home markets.

More Than A Compact Car
Nissan markets the car in the US as a compact car albeit the EPA rated the car a mid-size car since it volume. The Nissan Versa is the real compact car in Nissans range. Nevertheless the Nissan Sentra has been functional: reliably and safely transporting people from A to B. That is also the connotation the name Sentra brings. Let’s see if the 2021 Nissan Sentra can keep up with its reliable and safe image.

2021 second model year for the 8th generation
The Sentra’s iterations take up between 5 and 7 years. 2021 will be the second model year for the 8th generation that started with the 2020 Nissan Sentra. Since it is not part of a new batch this second batch will probably be less prone to startup issues.

Shanghai Premiere in April 2019
The new 2020 model year was just recently unveiled at the Shanghai auto show since it has been a big sales hit on the Chinese market. The car has been the preferred choice for 3 million families in China, and still sells about 20000 units per month in the United States.

(Almost) Beating the crossover craze
It is one of the few Sedan models that has not really been hit by the popularity of crossovers. With one million cars built annually and more than 10 million in the past Nissan has high hopes for the 8th generation Sentra.

Sentra Unveiling Video

The unveiling video has a great focus on safety features. It seems to hint on Lane Following Assist (LFA), Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) and emergency breaking, Cross traffic alerts and a wide range of connectivity options.

The presented 2021 Nissan Sentra interior is very sleek and cleanly designed. It has a great looking flooting roof that brings out the Sentras curves nicely.

2021 Nissan Sentra Innovations
The 8th generation Sentra has been evolving a lot since previous generations. Chinese media report 4 break-trough evolutions. Nissan boasts its Intelligent features and claims to be the leader in intelligent driver assistance technology and safety systems.

Low wind resistance technologies from the Nissan GT-R have been applies to the Sentra. The drag coefficient is 0.26 and on par with the GT-R. This created a more dynamic look for the Sentra sedan. Cabin has been redesigned to be more spacious and offer passengers more seating comfort.

Nissan also claims to have developed the lowest consumption in class at a 4.9L per 100km with an all new high performance and fuel efficient engine. Nissan claims to be able to introduce Level 3 autopilot autonomy. EV powertrains have also been a focus for the new Sentra with EV options and hybrid options to be rolled out in select markets. All the above in consideration it has evolved much from the 2017 Nissan Sentra.

2021 Nissan Sentra Expected Features
We expect at least following options on the Sentra:

Apple carplay and android connectivity
Airconditioning
Adaptive Cruise Control
Emergency braking

Lane Assist
L3 Autopilot
Blind Spot Waring
Upgrade of the Pro-Pilot assist

2021 Nissan Sentra Engine
The Chinese version seems to have 1.6L inline-four engine with 137hp. But the reports from the global launch in Shanghai also mention EV and Hybrid options. We also expect to see the third generation of the HR16DE four-cylinder engine in the new Sentra. We are looking forward to the exact engine details for the US market.

2021 Nissan Sentra Reputation
The Shanghai auto show is painting a bright picture for the Sentra but what have the past Nissan owners experienced with the Sentra lineup? Consumers have only rated the Sentra at 3.8/5 in the past.

Averaging at 41 mpg the users rate it’s fuel economy quite good. Users praise its solid quality for the price.

Mechanical issues seem to be exceptional. More expert drivers rate it as ‘OK’ for a starter car. Others complain about the lack of acceleration.
