World's largest sonic survey could help save the rainforest 🔈️🌴

On a visit to Costa Rica reporter James Dineen caught up with Giacamo Delgado, a doctoral researcher at ETH Zurich in Switzerland, and two other teams from Costa Rican universities who have bounded across the country recording the soundscapes of its forests.

The survey involves positioning microphones at more than 600 sites in every type of forest ecosystem in Costa Rica, making it, by some measures, the largest such “ecoacoustic” survey ever. This survey could pave the way for a network of sensors listening to the planet’s biodiversity in real time.
