HOW TO REMOVE AND INSERT CARTILAGE EARRINGS/LABRET (16G)
If you were pierced at a tattoo/piercing shop and with a needle, most likely the earring that they pierced with was a gauged earring which is thicker than your average earring and earring that doesn’t come off the same way as a regular earring.
This type of earring is called a labret earring: commonly used for lip piercings, cartilage, tragus, rook, and daith. These come in different gauages, typically from 16g (thicker) - 19g (thinner) - bigger the number the thinner the post. Some places also call these type of cartilage earrings, internally threaded earrings.
For earrings with a safety back or butterfly backing, check out these types of videos:

The one I have here is 16g which is thicker than what I normally use. I use a regular earring in my cartilage and I was pierced with a regular earring w/ a piercing gun back in 2007. (STILL ALIVE BTW! ) Yes, because it’s bigger it’s probably going to be uncomfortable because my ear is used to regular earrings.
How to insert cartilage earrings:
I put in these earrings through the back of the hole. These earrings are great because they have a flat backing, which doesn’t get caught to many things and then screw on the front piece.
How to remove cartilage earrings:
Unscrew the front piece and pull out the back.
They will not come off by pulling, unless they are pulled so hard the thread on the inside strips.. therefore making them useless. and it will probably hurt really bad.
Don’t be afraid to back or call the place that pierced you, they will be able to help you remove the earring if you struggle and help you put in a new earring.
