What does your microbiota sound like? That is one of the questions that David Kong is using to create new interfaces for artistic expression with biology while inspiring a collective engagement with synthetic biology.

As director of the Community Biotechnology Initiative at MIT, David’s goal is to develop tools and technologies that will enable the broadest possible participation in biotechnology. Biota Beats is a creative visualization he developed to translate microbial data into music.
