Tuesday Morning Tropical Update: Invest 99-L has high chance of development
The tropics remain very active, but we do not have any named storms...yet. That will change today.
We are nearing the peak on September 10 and September is the busiest month of the season. Stay tuned, but no need to worry!
EAST COAST
Tropical Depression 15 is located off the North Carolina coast. It is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm today and get the name Nana. It is moving northeast and will pull away from land going out to sea. Wind shear should keep it from strengthening a lot. It does not look like a threat to land at this point.
CARIBBEAN
There is a well defined tropical wave with an area of low pressure (Invest 99L) over the central Caribbean. It has a high chance to become a tropical depression soon as it moves to the west. Forecast models take this into Central America. This is not a threat to the Gulf of Mexico.
ATLANTIC
A tropical wave will emerge off the coast of Africa in a few days. It has a low chance to develop by the end of this week as it moves west across the Atlantic.
