Structured Participation Tracking and Scoring System SPTSS
In this video, we explore the Structured Participation Tracking and Scoring System (SPTSS) — an innovative teaching approach developed to improve student engagement and participation in higher education tutorial classes at Universiti Teknologi MARA Sabah Branch.
Traditional tutorial sessions often face challenges such as student silence, fear of making mistakes, and low classroom interaction. This study introduces a transparent and gamified participation system that rewards students for active involvement through activities such as answering questions, contributing to discussions, completing tasks, asking relevant questions, and peer teaching.
Implemented among 77 undergraduate students in the PAD321 Public Administration course, the SPTSS demonstrates how structured participation tracking can encourage more equitable classroom engagement, reduce student reticence, and create a more interactive learning environment.
