Hey there, delusive thought, let’s go on a date tonight? | Shivani Suchak | TEDxYouth@ZanakiSt
‘Dating our delusive thoughts’, an engaging talk by Shivani Suchak, author of ‘When I Met Ruhani’. Set in a culturally rich, Gujarati Lohana community in Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania), this book dares to delve into the challenges of mental health and wellness. Shivani explores mental illness in the context of emotions of regret, fear and attachment—of the past, future and present, respectively, in this talk; peppered with her own personal experiences that have resonated with so many. As the protagonist of her novel evolves to be a ‘mindset’, Ruhani explores living in harmony with one’s self, fellow humans and Mother Nature as she grapples with aligning her thoughts, emotions and actions. A must-hear talk for youth seeking self-acceptance and courage of their convictions. : Shivani is a self-published author of When I Met Ruhani, born and raised in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. After having studied architecture for two years, followed by a semester of sociology, Shivani started working on a piece of writing that she had almost discarded. Her vision was simple: she wanted to create a romance that was different from the predictable contemporary romances. Little did she know that it would lead her on to a therapeutic soul-searching journey that altered the course of the book. Shivani believes that vulnerability is strength and that the more we start to tap into our own vulnerability, the more compassionate our world will be. Her aim in life is to keep her candle of curiosity burning and to encourage others to do the same. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
