Why #TeamTrees could do more harm than good

Team Trees is hailed as the internet saving the planet. But could it actually damage rather than help the environment?

In this video essay I talk through the carbon sink of afforestation and compare it to the effects of individual actions like changing your diet and flying less. In particular we talk about the self-licensing effect and how it makes us humans do dumb things.

Again, I'm not trying to put down the work of #TeamTrees, MrBeast, or Mark Rober! You guys have done a good thing by making - or just supporting - this project. What I'm trying to do here is put it into data-context and prevent people from being blinded to how much good they have actually done vs. how much good they *could* have done.
