BYD Sea Lion 06 - 10/10 score SUV
The BYD Sea Lion 06 is the newest mid-size SUV in the Ocean series, and right now you can watch the full detailed review and test drive of this model here on our channel. From exterior design and interior ergonomics to acceleration runs, battery performance, ride comfort, and the advanced driver assistance suite, this is one of the most comprehensive presentations you’ll find.
Technical Overview
The Sea Lion 06 is available in two major versions:
EV (pure electric) on the latest e-Platform 3.0 Evo, with a single rear motor producing up to ~180 kW. Battery options are 65.3 kWh and 78.7 kWh, with a claimed 520–605 km range (CLTC). The larger pack supports 800V fast charging for shorter DC charging sessions.
DM-i plug-in hybrid (5th generation), combining a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with electric motors and batteries of 18.3 kWh or 26.6 kWh. Pure EV driving range is rated at 121–170 km CLTC, enough for most daily commutes, while still offering full hybrid efficiency on long trips. The PHEV also supports fast charging (~54 kW) and V2L (3.3 kW) external power supply.
The car measures about 4,810 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase, offering generous second-row space and a large trunk — something we test in detail. Inside, you’ll find BYD’s signature rotating 15.6″ infotainment screen, digital cluster, NFC key, remote monitoring, and the full DiPilot ADAS package.
Prices in China
At launch in mid-2025, the BYD Sea Lion 06 was priced between:
RMB 139,800 – 156,800 for the DM-i PHEV versions
RMB 143,800 – 163,800 for the EV versions
That translates to roughly US $19,500 – $22,700, depending on configuration. Thanks to vertical integration and its proprietary Blade Battery, BYD manages to keep costs down while offering strong specifications.
History & Context
The BYD Sea Lion 06 was officially unveiled in July 2025, expanding the Ocean family with a mid-size SUV positioned below the Sea Lion 07. It represents BYD’s dual-track strategy: pushing long-range EVs with 800V technology while also serving markets with limited charging infrastructure via ultra-efficient PHEVs. In doing so, BYD strengthens its grip on both domestic and global markets by offering affordability, flexibility, and in-house innovation.
