Freie Gedanken (Free Thoughts), Josefine Weinlich - Esther Abrami & Her Ensemble @ SCL Festival
This rendition of Josefine Weinlich's "Freie Gedanken" (Free Thoughts) is the result of a cooperation between the SCL Festival, Esther Abrami and Her Ensemble (Ellie Consta (Founder, Violin), Kate Suthers (Violin), Natalia Senior-Brown (Viola), Wallis Power (Cello), Lucía Polo Moreno (Double Bass).
The piece was originally written by Josefine Weinlich a Viennese composer and contemporary to Johann Strauss. In 1867 Josefine Weinlich founded the First European Ladies' Orchestra (Erstes Europäisches Damen-Orchester). Weinlich toured Europe and the United States with her Orchestra and in 1873 she performed in the world-famous Wiener Musikverein.
150 years later Esther Abrami and Her Ensemble performed her "Freie Gedanken" in the same Golden Hall of the Musikverein and in the Casino Zögernitz, also called the "House of Strauss" where this video was recorded. The piece was originally written for piano, this version was arranged by Esther Abrami and Ellie Consta.
