U.S.-China Meeting: Blinken To Beijing

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday ended a high-stakes visit to Beijing with an unexpected meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Peaceful dialogue is never a bad idea. Unless the U.S. and China can broker some form of peace, the alternative is a deepening cold war that could turn hot. And that would be highly destructive. (And if some members of Congress get their way, they would go to war with China.)

"China and Cuba are negotiating to establish a new joint military training facility on the island, sparking alarm in Washington that it could lead to the stationing of Chinese troops and other security and intelligence operations just 100 miles off Florida’s coast, according to current and former U.S. officials."

There is tremendous irony around the Cuba-China connection given that there are more than 400 U.S. military bases surrounding China and given America's endless hostilities toward Cuba.

Last week, the White House declassified intelligence to confirm publicly that Chinese intelligence collection facilities have existed in Cuba since at least 2019 during the Trump administration.

The irony is thick to say the least.
