Sex for fish, popularly referred to as Jaboya, is a phenomenon in which women are forced to have sex to buy fish. In Kisumu in Kenya, the practice is subjugating women and spreading HIV around its shores.
"Jaboya is providing for my children", explains Lucy, a widowed mother of 5. "I have to do it because there is no other way." But now, the No Sex For Fish project is allowing women to speak out about the dangers of Jaboya. They are attempting to "initiate empowerment on the beach" by owning boats and creating all-female fishing crews. But in a place where men hold all the cards and poverty rules, it's no easy battle.
