Conic Sections 2 ellipse

Conic Sections
Ellipse
An ellipse is the locus of all the points in the plane for which the sum of the distances from two fixed point is constant.
Drawing an Ellipse.
The standard form of an ellipse centered at (0, 0) depends on whether the major axis is horizontal or vertical.
Center The midpoint between the two foci
Foci Two fixed points inside the ellipse, usually labeled as F1 and F2.For any point on the ellipse, the sum of the distances to the two foci is constant. Distance between foci = 2c
Major Axis The longest diameter of the ellipse . It passes through the center and both foci.
Minor Axis The shortest diameter of the ellipse . It also passes through the center but is perpendicular to the major axis.
Vertices The endpoints of the major axis. Distance between vertices = 2a
Co-vertices The endpoints of the minor axis. Distance between Co-vertices = 2b
