The Sick Rose is a poem not only symbolical but also with moral meanings. The world of innocence becomes destroyed by the world of experience, the phase of spiritual existence surrenders to grossly materialistic pleasure that brings spiritual death.
O Rose, thou art sick! The invisible worm, That flies in the night, In the howling storm, Has found out thy bed Of crimson joy; And his dark secret love Does thy life destroy.
William Blake's The Sick Rose is an example of an extended metaphor. The rose is representative of a female. Traditionally in poetry, roses are usually shown in poems to be beautiful, delicate, and sensual, since red is traditionally the color of passion.
William Blake says in the poem 'The Sick Rose ', that the Rose is on the verge of destruction and decay ,it has turned sick because the invisible worm has preyed on it. The beautiful rose in its bed ,is inflicted by the harmful worm and is destroyed
The Sick Rose' is a poem by William Blake which explores the themes of love, innocence and sex across just two stanzas.
The main themes that appear in the Sick Rose are Love, Innocence, Selfishness, and Destruction. The Rose is full of love, and is fresh. It has been at the same place its whole life and has not seen the bitter realities of the world. In contrast, the Worm is selfish and filled with dark love
