Cascade of Moonbeams ("CHANDANYACHA ZHOT")

SAA Academy presents a unique acoustic cross-cultural experience where music crosses borders effortlessly, with some of India’s greatest talents joining those of the Far East! The lyrics of celebrated poet Kusumagraj are set to music by the legendary Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar and soulfully sung by Baiju Mangeshkar. Supported by a cast of stellar musicians, including a string quartet that appears courtesy of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, they make music the likes of which has seldom been heard before, with real musicians and without any programmed, synthesized or sampled sounds!

PT. HRIDAYNATH MANGESHKAR, a recipient of the coveted Padma Shri award, is the youngest sibling of the legendary Indian vocalist Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar. A prolific composer of film and non-film scores in Marathi, Hindi & Bengali languages, he has enthralled music connoisseurs for nearly seven decades. He is the winner of the National Award for his score in the Hindi film “Lekin”. His style can best be described as an avante-garde blend of traditional Hindustani classical and folk with Western idioms, and it retains a heavy influence on successive generations of composers.

BAIJU MANGESHKAR, younger son of Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar, is a singer-composer in his own right, with two albums of Sufi music to his credit. His music and singing have an impressionist feel, and he brings a rare artistic sensibility to all his creations and renditions.
