What is a section 75 claim? (s75 Consumer Credit Act 1974) #shorts

Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 is one of the most powerful weapons in a consumer’s armoury. If something you buy doesn’t work, or a tradesman doesn’t provide a service you paid for, you can get a refund or compensation from your credit card company rather than suing the seller or supplier. This is incredibly useful if the seller:

- Doesn’t have the money
- Can’t be traced
- Or is just being awkward

It applies to purchases of over £100 but under £30,000, and they must have been paid for with your credit card – it doesn’t work for debit card payments.

You can bring a s75 claim by contacting your credit card company and filling in a form. If they refuse your claim, you can sue them in the same way as you would the original seller or supplier.
