Manila Bay & Baseco Beach Cleanup

The fight for Manila Bay continues! A big pat on the back to all volunteers and the various Government agencies working hard to restore the glory of Manila Bay and the surrounding waterways.

Videos are first released on https://facebook.com/ytgadgetaddict/ and comments can be left there.

While various Government agencies continue to work on the Manila Bay and the tributary waterways, the main focus for volunteers right now is Baseco Beach.

We start the morning at Manila Baywalk and take a look at the amphibious excavators being used by the DPWH and their segregation machine that can automatically remove trash from soil or sand.

I also showed a cellphone gimbal (prestigio 3-axis) that was given to me by a generous fan. I don't shoot my videos on my cellphone because the camera isn't great. But for sure I can get some good use out of this. Especially for specalized sweeping timelapses and things like that.

Next we went to Baseco Beach where we saw 4Ocean - an organization that teamed up with The Philippine Coast Guard and The Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) for a cleanup. Aside from PRRC and Coast Guard employees, residents of Baseco also joined as volunteers.

We walked around the beach where we saw many MMDA taking part in the cleanup. I think there were around 200 MMDA today.

After that we return to Manila Baywalk where we bumped into the Women of Wallem - the wives of seafarers. They were giving out free food to those working on the Bay. Very nice!

Next we talk briefly about the MMDA River Ferry which is still in operation. It's a chicken or the egg scenario. They haven't built new stops or bought new boats because only a few people use the service. But the reason why only a few people use it is because there's not many stops or boats. So I guess they need to do a detailed analysis and survey to assess whether it's worth investing in expanding this transport option.

Finally we end our day at Estero de Magdalena which is always a rollercoaster of emotions. On the one hand, I'm so happy to see the huge improvement and how they've recovered the full width of the waterway. But at the same time, it's upsetting and annoying to see the informal settlers continue to throw their trash straight into the estero, especially when so many people are working so hard to clean it up. And while other people around Metro Manila are suffering from a water crisis, they have non-stop running water that's being wasted.
