China has actually slowed down Earth's rotation. Here's how: China built one of the world's largest dams over the Yangtze River — it's called the **Three Gorges Dam**. This dam is about **600 feet high and 7,500 feet long**, and it stores around **39 trillion kilograms of water**.

Earlier, this water used to flow freely through rivers and eventually reach the oceans. But now, because of the dam, all this water is being held in a limited area. Basically, it's like placing a giant water-filled bathtub on top of the Earth.

Well, consider this: when a figure skater stretches out their arms while spinning, their rotation slows down. And when they pull their arms in, they spin faster. This happens because moving mass away from the center increases the **moment of inertia**, which makes rotation harder.

Similarly, when China used the dam to lift trillions of kilograms of water to a higher elevation above Earth’s surface, it effectively moved mass farther from the Earth's center. This increased the planet's moment of inertia — and as a result, Earth’s rotation **slowed down slightly**.
