I was registered for the Tulsa Route 66 Capital Cruise — the 100th anniversary world record parade attempt. At 7AM I started seeing reports of massive traffic backups and made the decision to stay home. I'm glad I did.
Over 5,100 people registered from 42 states. People came from Canada. Someone flew in from France. Some cashed in retirement funds and emptied savings accounts just to be part of a once in a century moment on Route 66.
One single entry point for five thousand classic cars. No traffic management plan in the permit. One police officer managing miles of backed up traffic. People in line at 7:30AM who didn't reach the gate until 11AM — when organizers shut it down to protect the Guinness World Record attempt.
The city's official response? "Everything from Expo Square operated as planned."
Vice Grip Garage — Derek Bieri — was one of the grand marshals. He helped bring double the expected attendance. Now he's spending $10,500 per day for 95 days in advertising to hold Tulsa accountable. He's collecting emails for a potential class action lawsuit. The Mayor won't meet with him. Factor 110 Event Solutions won't talk to him.
