Inter City Train

A train journey through crowded cities and tranquil countryside, imagined through memories of Japan.

A next frame prediction diffusion model is trained on a small number of video clips captured on a recent train journey I took in the UK. Given an initial frame this model is recursively applied to generate a completely artificial train ride. As the model is also trained to accept clip image embeddings, the train ride can be moved through different landscapes and contexts by giving it different input embeddings.

By providing a variety of clip embeddings corresponding to a variety of images related to memories of Japan and its culture the train ride in the UK is recontextualised to reflect my own childhood memories and experiences of Japan based on the model’s own “memories” before it was fine tuned.
