Meet the Expert: Dr Robert Yohe, Ancient Burial Practices in Egypt

Since 2003, archaeologists from Cal-State Bakersfield and the University of California, Berkeley, have been engaged in research pertaining to the mass burial of many human bodies in a Late Roman/Byzantine cemetery dating from the 3rd to 7th centuries CE. The leader of this research team, Dr. Robert Yohe (Professor of Anthropology, CSUB), has been engaged in the investigation of this burial ground adjacent to the north entrance of the ancient city of Teudjoi/Ankyronpolis (known today as Tell El-Hibeh in Arabic) for nearly 20 years and will provide the preliminary conclusions of his investigations in this presentation.

Dr. Robert M. Yohe II has been a professional archaeologist and educator for more than 40 years. He has more than one hundred published books, professional articles, book chapters and textbooks that relate to his archaeological research pertaining to ancient hunter/gatherers in the American West (primarily California and the Great Basin) and burial practices in Late Antique Egypt. Dr. Yohe has been a professor of Anthropology for 23 years at California State University, Bakersfield, and before that served as the State Archaeologist and State Historic Preservation Officer in Idaho (1993 to 1999) and an adjunct professor of Anthropology at Boise State University in Idaho.
