Jonas Kaufmann & Angela Gheorghiu, breathtaking in La Traviata's Act II scene (2006)

Jonas Kaufmann, in his early vocal prime and making his ultimately acclaimed Met debut, sings an ardent and manly Alfredo Germont with Angela Gheorghiu's sublimely delicate, but also very dramatically urgent Violetta Valéry.

This is an excerpt from the second scene of the Act II of Verdi's La Traviata, conducted by Marco Armiliato. Gheorghiu's first Violetta on the Met, still in her sweetest and freshest vocal form, and Kaufmann's first performances ever in that theater won a well deserved success.
