BMW E36 key spinning but not turning engine on

So I have a 1997 E36 BMW and my key one night just started spinning in the hole. So I could turn on the car.

I took the ignition out (the red thing) and saw the ignition pin which slots into the ignition was facing the wrong way and it couldn't fit in the groves of the ignition. So I just turned that ignition pin so it would fit and that seemed to fix the problem.

So if your key is spinning and not turning on the car then just make sure the ignition pin is facing the right way.
