"Flying over the Atlantic was a surreal experience" - recollects Capt. Aarohi Pandit as she shares her experience of being the first woman pilot in the world to fly solo across the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean, in her first TEDx talk at TEDxSJEC.
Capt. Aarohi Pandit is a 24-year-old pilot from Mumbai who became the first woman to circumnavigate the world in a Light-Sport Aircraft (LSA) on 13th May 2019, inspiring women everywhere around the world.
She has covered a total of 22 countries in 51 days, starting from Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, crossing over to Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Serbia, Slovenia, Germany, France, and the UK. She has flown the flight over 3,000 km far under some extreme weather conditions after taking off from Wick, Scotland (UK) with a couple of stopovers in Greenland and Iceland.
Capt. Aarohi Pandit has also set a world record for flying across the second-largest ice sheet on the planet. Join her as she speaks about her eternal love for flying, the many obstacles she has faced, and what she has learned from this journey.
Capt. Aarohi Pandit, a 23-year-old pilot from Mumbai created history by becoming the first woman in the world to cross the Atlantic Ocean solo in a Light Sports Aircraft (LSA). In a strong message of women empowerment, the Indian pilot performed the feat on the midnight of May 13, 2019. She achieved the record by landing her aircraft at Iqaluit Airport in Canada. She flew the 3,000 km long flight under some extreme weather conditions after taking off from Wick, Scotland (UK) with a couple of stopovers in Greenland and Iceland.
Ms Aarohi also set a world record for flying across the second largest ice sheet (Greenland icecap) on the planet. Aarohi is flying around the globe as part of the WE! Women Empower Expedition: the first all-female team to circumnavigate the world in an LSA. She traveled in an eco-friendly, ultralight Sinus 912. Capt. Aarohi is a true inspiration for all Indian Women and Women across the world to believe in themselves and chase their dreams.
