Tripping with a Tripp Lite Surge Protector Repair

I debated on whether or not to call this video a "Repair", but in the end I ended up with a working piece of equipment so "Repair" it is.

Even as I'm uploading it I'm kicking myself for being such a noob and not researching the surge protector a little before I started filming, but that's showbiz, baby.

Anyways, today we're tearing apart a Tripp-Lite Isobar Ultra Surge Suppressor, a fancy little surge protector that's in a waterjet cutting machine to power a computer/monitor combo. With a complaint of no computer power but a green status light on the Tripp-Lite, I stumbled around for an embarrassing amount of time before sticking my probes in the surge protector. After that, a quick scrounging for a basic surge protector had the machine up and running. With the "real job" part of the repair patched up, I decided to see what had tripped me up with this troubleshooting (pun intended). So I set up the camera, grabbed a screwdriver, and the rest is in the video.

For the people who are going to lose sleep over this: I did find the source of the short that blew the fuse in the first place. A loose wire feeding the line side of the 24VDC power supply for the computer wasn't tightened completely and the wire end found its way to the grounded case. So, two easy fixes.

Thanks for watching and don't forget to like, subscribe if you like this kind of stuff, and share!
