The Port-A-Vid Personal Video System: Alt-Reality Tech For Our Troubled Times
Not gonna lie, the world's got me stressed out these days. Earlier this year, I started making lo-fi videos to relax to, then I thought to myself, 'What if I made a machine that could play these videos?'
I was at the junkyard one day this summer and found a beat-up old Snap-on vacuum/pressure tester device that had such a wonderful look. I paid $10 to the junkman for it.
I removed its insides and replaced them with an LCD screen, a Raspberry Pi, a rechargeable battery pack, and some other bits and bobs.
Then I spent weeks and weeks shooting video, searching through archival footage on the Internet Archive, finding the right music, and stitching it all together.
Now it's done. This is the Port-A-Vid.
