Dubai's Crazy Mega Project: Build The World's First Rotating & Dancing Skyscraper

Dubai, the city of wonders has now a next mega project - Build the world's first rotating and dancing skyscraper .
There are 2 versions of it . The Dynamic tower and the Squall Tower
Dynamic Tower

The Dynamic Tower (also known as the rotating tower or the Da Vinci Tower) is a cancelled 420-metre (1,378 ft), 80-floor moving skyscraper, designed by architect David Fisher.

Similar to the Suite Vollard completed in 2001 in Brazil, each floor is designed to rotate independently, resulting in a changing shape of the tower. Each floor is designed to rotate a maximum of 6 metres (20 ft) per minute, or one full rotation in 180 minutes.

It was proposed as the world's first prefabricated skyscraper with 40 factory-built modules for each floor.Fisher said that 90% of the tower could be built in a factory and shipped to the construction site. This would allow the entire building to be built more quickly. The core of the tower must be built at the construction site.[1] Fisher said that the prefabricated portions would decrease the project's cost and the number of workers,[8] and that construction will take 30% less time than a normal skyscraper of the same size.[9] The majority of the workers would be in factories, working under safer conditions.[9] Kitchen and bathroom fixtures would be pre-installed. The core would serve each floor with a special, patented connection for clean water, based on technology used to refuel airplanes in mid-flight.

The entire tower is proposed to be powered from wind turbines and solar panels. Enough surplus electricity should be produced to power five other similar sized buildings in the vicinity. The turbines would be located between each of the rotating floors. Fisher said that they could generate up to 1,200,000 kilowatt-hours of energy each year. The solar panels are expected to cover the roof and the top of each floor.

In 2008, Fisher said that he expected the skyscraper to be completed in 2010.In 2009, Fisher said construction would be complete in late 2011.Fisher did not "say where the tower would be built, [...] because he wanted to keep it a surprise." Fisher acknowledges that he is not well known, has never built a skyscraper before, and has not practiced architecture regularly in decades. Until now , construction had not started, and there has been no official announcement of the building site.

Squall tower

When it comes to engineering advancements in skyscraper design, undeniably, most engineers are focused on breaking the building’s height record. Also, we already know the revolving restaurants perched at the top of towers. Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio went much further, presenting the Squall Tower, a turbine-shaped skyscraper concept that would be intended to adorn the Dubai skyline.

It is not only the top floor that turns, but the entire skyscraper turns on its base. The idea came from a Turkish architect, Hayri Atak, who proposed this skyscraper concept, dubbed Squall Tower, that is designed to physically rotate with the wind.

The Squall Tower is a concept project was inspired by vertical wind turbines, and in contrast to skyscrapers resisting the wind’s strength, the tower moves in uniform with its environment. It comes with three individual ribbon-shaped segments that helically twist around a central axis, with multiple branches connecting them all together.

The cross-section of each ribbon is designed to be streamlined, allowing it to effectively rotate with minimal drag. A single rotation will be completed once every 48 hours, with or without wind. Like many rotating restaurants, the tower will allow its occupants to have a 360° view of Dubai, alternating between the ocean and city-facing views.

A helipad at the top of the tower will allow patrons and visitors access from the top, but rotating entrances on the base will provide ingress to each of the building’s three helical towers. Regardless of the direction of the wind, says Atak, the skyscraper will be able to generate electricity for indoor use thanks to its rotation.

It is not clear if we will have a chance to see the real Squall Tower since there’s no word on when the construction for the Squall Tower will begin. But this concept is considered one of the ideas that combine technology with the environment. It also helps the world to save energy through electricity generated by the wind.
