Bio

Daehyun Kim was born in 1980 in Seoul. He studied Oriental Painting at Hongik University in Seoul. After graduating from university, he started to draw his characteristic drawings, called “Moonassi series”. Daehyun also worked as a graphic designer, marketing manager, and art director at various companies for several years. Since he worked with New York Times as an illustrator, he some times collaborate with other artists and brands. Now he is working and living in Paju. Gyeonggi-do.


Statement

I’ve been making a series of drawing, called “Moonassi” since 2008. Moonassi is my artist name, which means similar to the Buddhist term “Anatta”. From the beginning, I wanted to draw something I really know and something I really can speak about. It was my inner feelings and my intimate relations that give me various emotions. My drawings are all about me and others. What I like to create is a drawing as an empty space between me and viewer, so that people can talk and find their own story from my drawings. I only use black colour because it’s simple and enough to depict. I draw on a small paper because it’s convenient.

Ametsub is making music based in Tokyo.
He is also a backpacker who loves polar exploration, Icyland / Arctic Circle.

Last year, he played at Sonar Reykjavik / Iceland 2015, it was chosen as one of best moments of second days. And he played at Taicoclub Festival'15 in japan. Line-up with Boredoms, Nosaj Thing, Autechre etc. Also he played at Priceless Festival 2015 / Gray Area in San Francisco.

In 2016 Spring, Ametsub will release "Sky Droppin' EP" from Blueberry Recordings run by Falty DL (Ninja Tune). And some New EP wchich featured his new musical instrument will be released very soon.

The previous album “The Nothings of The North” has gotten big evaluation from wide listeners of world. It was chosen as Best Disk in 2009 of Ryuichi Sakamoto and built a firm unique position in the scene. Last year, he was suggested from Ryuichi Sakamoto, and they did improvisation session with the installation of fog at Noda-shrine. In 2014, Yello-Boris Blank also picked up Ametsub album on his "10 Favorite Electronic Records" in FACT Magazine.

He performs activity also outside Japan across a border. He appeared on lot of big festival of the world. L.E.V. Festival (Spain) with Apparat/John Hopkins, FLUSSI Festival (Italy) with Ryoichi Kurokawa/Raime, STROM Festival (Denmark) with Sherwood&Pinch/Ital Tek, Mind Camp Festival (Netherlands) with Kettel/Arovane, MiRA Festival (Spain) with Actress/Lone. The tour in Ukraine. HanoiSoundStuff Festival (Vietnam) with Daito Mababe. He also appeared on japanese large festival such as SonarSound Tokyo with Daito Manabe, Taicoclub Festival, EmafTokyo, FujiRock Festival etc.
He also played at Caffe Laugavegur 22 Reykjavik in Iceland.

In Japan, he has played as support act for many oversea artist's japan tour. Recently, Tim Hecker, Plaid, Floating Points, Actress, Loscil, Bvdub, Fennesz, Yagya, Moritz Von Oswald, Alva Noto etc.

Long-awaited newest Album “All is Silence” is released in 2012. It also has gotten massive response in world. A succession of feeling of floating drifting melodies that seems to remind an endless trip. The sound-scape like a spectacular nature, the solemn horizon of landscape, the silence of the evening, fluttering reminiscence in the old tape, the sound of reverb from snow landscape. Long-awaited 3rd Album "All is Silence"also has gotten massive response in world. A succession of feeling of floating drifting melodies that seems to remind an endless trip. The sound-scape like a spectacular nature, the solemn horizon of landscape, the silence of the evening, fluttering reminiscence in the old tape, the sound of reverb from snow landscape.
His enormous individuality and wide strong soundscape widen a fan all over the world.
