Colin Furze - 3D Printed Wall

Summary of the process that was taken to create the 3D Print files for the Furze Rock Wall Community Print at Makers Central 2025:

The photogrammetry mesh was aligned with the LiDAR scan data.

The Garage was scanned a second time to get a model of the new finished wall and Recess.

The photogrammetry mesh was then shifted to fit into the recessed space, choosing as much of the wall as close to real scale as possible, also while favouring a mix of the rock and soil layers. The recess wasn't quite deep enough to fit the rock wall so we decided to splice the mesh to make it look like the rock was coming out of the wall!

This new mesh was then cut and spliced into 192 tiles, each approx. 150mm square to fit the majority of 3D Printers.
Then each piece was extruded down just enough to create a flat base to reduce print volumes / times as much as possible.
A system to hold each piece as the correct distance will be made so all the tiles align.

The pieces and their colour image texture created from an orthographic view of the wall was then sent out to the community that responded to a post asking for help in printing the all for Maker Central 2025.
