Bharat: Manikarnika Song Cover by Saileena Bose | Singer: Shankar Mahadevan | 75th Independence Day

We are independent. It's been 75 years now. While we celebrate this with music, art and grandeur, let's not forget what it cost us to reach here. We are yet to achieve freedom in many aspects of us. Are we still together in this?

I attempted Shankar ji's beautiful, in fact, soulful rendition that illustrates the emotional domain of a freedom fighter. Although, it was incorporated into the film Manikarnika, referring to Rani Laxmi Bai's determination. Nevertheless, it's the state of being of every person who involved in the freedom struggle.

The best part of the song, that gives me goosebumps: " Yuddh hai samman ka ye maan rehna chahiye" .... And in that scene, Manikarnika, burns herself live in the pyre after she's hit by the bullet. I realise that she didn't loose even after her death. She died with her pure intention that left lasting mark on this land and inpired many Freedom fighter to join in.
