Pradip Khatiwada is the founder and executive director of Youth Innovation Lab (YI-Lab)—a non-profit civic-tech company based in Nepal. He is a leader among a group of young people with the mission of bridging science to people and policy through innovation at YI-Lab. Recognized for civic tech innovation, he has been an important figure in the development of cutting-edge technological tools such as integrated disaster information management system, COVID-19 monitor, human rights information management system for government and non-government organizations.
Pradip is also the current chair of U-INSPIRE Alliance—a global youth and young professionals’ network of 12 countries—working in science, engineering, technology, and innovation.
In his talk, he shares the importance of having a safe and accessible databases and how they can be used to build new advances in the field of technology. He also emphasizes on the condition of the street lights in Kathmandu and how it is not properly maintained, he proposes the bridging of the gap between the public and science using the right technology to maintain these services to prevent various social issues these malfunction causes.
