Last Friday was the 200th anniversary of Grozny, the capital of the Chechen Republic. President Putin sent his greetings to the residents. Fort Groznaya was founded by General Aleksey Yermolov two centuries ago as a military outpost of the Russian Empire in the Caucasus. During World War II, the residents of Grozny didn't let the fascists take the city. For the courage, endurance, and mass heroism of its citizens, the honorary title of City of Military Glory was bestowed upon Grozny.
