Could I Play Bass With Tigran Hamasyan? | The Grid

Although the song only took about 30 minutes to learn in terms of the bass part, the form, and the little twists and turns, it took much longer to feel totally comfortable playing it than all the songs I've recorded in the series so far.

This is take one of one. I wanted to add something original to the take, and imagine I was either in the studio playing this on the record date for the song or playing it live and improvising a little within the form, so I added something different in the breakdown where there's normally a subby modulated bass sound.

I also tracked this part with no effects as a different take on the song, and to challenge myself to get more range out of the natural sound of the bass.

Everything was tracked dry and direct, and I used LALAL.AI to create the bass-less play along, NOT to learn the bass part. This whole exercise is about the ear, about learning fast and accurately in real time without slowing anything down, and then about executing the recording process in the shortest time possible.
