Lessons from my journey in Antarctica | Mohit Sharma | TEDxJMC
In this insightful TEDx talk, Mohit Sharma shares his transformative experience of living in one of the most extreme environments on Earth. Having spent nearly two years in Antarctica as part of scientific expeditions, he set out believing that the journey would test his strength, endurance and resilience. However, what he discovered there was far more profound.
In Antarctica, there are no safety nets. Through his experiences, Mohit realised that the environment he stepped into is a test of true responsibility and strength. A simple moment of awareness, choosing to act instead of ignore, can make all the difference.
He reflects on how responsibility reveals itself in quiet yet powerful ways. It appears in taking initiative before being asked, in showing up even when it is inconvenient, and in acting on what feels slightly wrong before it becomes a visible problem. These actions create stability, trust and collective success.
Through real-life moments and introspection, Mohit highlights that responsibility is not about authority or recognition, but about understanding consequences. His journey in Antarctica becomes a lens to understand a universal truth. True change is the accumulation of responsible actions, the true essence of which lies in being reliable.
This talk is a reminder that while strength may impress people, responsibility is what sustains them. It encourages us to look beyond visible challenges and reflect on the choices we make every day, even the ones that go unnoticed.
He walks into places where maps surrender to silence. He listens to the language of ice and ocean that only a rare few have dared to understand. Bearing the warmth of purpose and the weight of knowledge from the coldest frontiers, Mohit Sharma stands as a symbol of relentless perseverance at the outermost limits of human exploration.
Currently serving as a Laboratory Engineer with India’s National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, Mr. Mohit Sharma works where the Earth reveals its most guarded truths. In the stark vastness of polar regions, Mr. Sharma decodes the delicate and decisive relationship between ice and ocean that shapes the future of our planet. When he raised the Indian tricolour on Antarctic soil, it was not merely symbolic, it was history written in frost. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
