DC police officer shot on his way to work in Northwest neighborhood; 2 in custody
A D.C. police captain was shot and injured in Northwest, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
The officer was shot shortly after noon in the 5800 block of 7th Street NW, police officials said, several blocks from the Fourth District Station.
During a news conference, D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith said that the off-duty officer was driving to work in his personal vehicle when he noticed a car driving erratically. The car abruptly stopped in front of the officer, and then one suspect exited the vehicle and fired at the officer.
The officer was struck, but was able to get a partial plate and call it into the police department before driving himself to the Fourth District police station, Smith said.
