Google Killed FAQ Schema - What It Means for SEO Rich Results and AI Cowboys
Google Killed FAQ Schema - What It Means for SEO Rich Results and AI Cowboys
Many so called AI SEO experts and SEO agencies pushed FAQ schema as a cheat code for SEO rich results, Google AI Overviews, and AI visibility.
But the real value was never the schema itself.
AI systems and Google can already understand well written content without needing structured FAQ markup.
The websites that performed well were usually the ones providing strong answers and useful information, not simply adding code snippets.
Google removing most FAQ rich results proves that the visual SEO advantage is gone, and the supposed AI optimisation “hack” was largely overstated.
Authority, relevance, and content quality still matter more than gimmicks and plugins.

What was FAQ schema and what does it mean that Google have totally dropped it from their rich results?
FAQ schema was basically a line of HTML code that you could put in your website that Google could clearly see which were questions and answers on your website.
Now for anyone that’s been serious about SEO and knows SEO, have known for a long time that Google has started reducing reliance on it.
Unfortunately, this wasn't true for all the AI gurus out there and all the guys who were telling you, 'Yes, FAQ schema is vital. You need FAQ schema in order to get the questions and answers. FAQ schema is the new SEO.' and so on and so on.
Anyone who knows the truth about Google knows that in order to get your questions and answers ranked on Google, it's about the quality of the content.
Google and the LLMs out there know that there’s no such thing as a shortcut that you could just put a line of code and Google could see, 'Ooh, that's the questions. Oh, that's the answers.' and you’re going to rank miraculously.
No, Google and the AI models have and always will be smarter than just a line of code that you could try game the system.
Like I said, unfortunately, a lot of the AI gurus out there, and you know I’m being sarcastic hopefully, are still telling people you have to put the schema out there and you have to embed it and you have to do all this nonsense.
FAQ schema really didn't make a major difference to SEO before and it's really not going to make a difference to your website going forward as well. In fact, you don't even probably have to remove it.
Just write quality content. Yes, write quality questions and write quality answers. If the content is good enough, Google will show those questions and answers.
Just follow the basics and don't believe the lies and hype out there.
